A milestone moment awaits as the Summit Piano Trio prepares to make its first appearance on one of the world’s most iconic stages.

The Summit Piano Trio, featuring Helen Kim on violin, Charae Krueger on cello and Robert Henry on piano, will make its debut in Weill Recital Hall at Carnegie Hall on December 13. This milestone marks a proud moment for ɫشý’s Bailey School of Music and a significant step in the ensemble’s artistic journey.

“Carnegie Hall is one of those places every musician dreams about — it’s where the greats have stood and poured their hearts into the music,” said violinist Helen Kim. “The idea that we’ll walk onto that same stage feels humbling and electrifying all at once...and yes, we’ll probably all take a moment to pinch ourselves before the first note.”

Known for their dynamic interpretations and refined musicality, the trio has curated a program that reflects their artistic voice and emotional range. They will perform Joaquín Turina’s íܱ, Anton Arensky’s Piano Trio in D minor, and Felix Mendelssohn’s Piano Trio in C minor.

“Each piece shows a different side of what we love about the piano trio repertoire,” said pianist Robert Henry. “Turina’s íܱ paints the passing of a day — from sunrise to midnight — in shimmering, impressionistic colors. Arensky’s trio is a lush, heartfelt Romantic work that feels like a musical conversation between friends. And Mendelssohn’s C minor trio is pure energy — brilliant and deeply human.

We chose these works because together they tell a story of time, connection, and emotion.”

Formed at ɫشý’s Bailey School of Music, the Summit Piano Trio began as a collaboration among colleagues — and quickly grew into a close-knit musical partnership.

“The name ‘Summit’ felt right from the start,” said cellist Charae Krueger. “It reflects both our artistic aspirations and our roots. It’s a nod to Kennesaw Mountain, which rises right beside campus, and to the idea of meeting at the ‘summit’ — a place where three musical paths converge into one voice. We liked that it’s both literal and metaphorical. Plus, it sounds way better than ‘The ɫشý Piano Trio That Really Likes Coffee.’”

Preparing for Carnegie Hall has pushed the trio to refine every detail of their performance.

“Carnegie Hall is famously honest — every nuance, every detail; every tiny musical choice is heard,” said Krueger. “So, we’ve been focusing on color, balance, and clarity, fine-tuning how our sound blends and breathes in the space.”

The Bailey School of Music continues to support its students and faculty in pursuing high-impact opportunities that elevate the university’s presence on national and international stages. The Summit Piano Trio’s Carnegie Hall debut is a shining example of that mission in action.

“This performance is a testament to the talent, dedication, and collaborative spirit fostered within the Bailey School of Music,” said Dr. Nathan Nabb, Director of the Bailey School of Music. “We are incredibly proud of the Summit Piano Trio and thrilled to see their artistry recognized on such a renowned stage.”

“Our hope is that the audience feels a sense of connection — to the music, to us, and to something bigger than all of us,” said Kim. “Each piece reflects different facets of human experience: Turina’s passing of time, Arensky’s tenderness, Mendelssohn’s passion.

We want listeners to walk away feeling inspired, uplifted, and reminded that music at its best is a shared act of joy.

If our Carnegie Hall debut reminds students that they can turn their passion into possibility — and have a good laugh along the way — then that’s the best legacy we could hope for.”
