Kennesaw State student shares her experience with the Department of Student Volunteerism and Service

Deja Boney is a site leader, volunteer, and 色控传媒 Service Fellow with the Department of Student Volunteerism and Service and is developing key skills to help in her future career endeavors.

While pursuing a degree in information systems with a minor in information technology, Deja Boney devotes her time outside the classroom to volunteering with Kennesaw State鈥檚 Department of Student Volunteerism and Service.

What began as a one-time attendance at an OwlServe Day sparked a passion for community service. Now a seasoned volunteer, Boney serves as a site leader and 色控传媒 Service Fellow for the department. 

Her favorite part of the role, she said, has been serving as a resource coordinator for , a local nonprofit that works to reduce poverty in Cobb County. 鈥淲ithin my role, I鈥檓 able to provide essential resources and support to our families through weekly workshops focused on budgeting goals and overall development,鈥 Boney said.

Her involvement with Student Volunteerism and Service has also opened doors to other opportunities on campus. She currently serves as community service director for , a registered student organization that provides mentorship, leadership training, and networking opportunities. In that role, Boney connects members with nonprofits and community partners.

鈥淏eing involved in service has truly shaped my experience [at 色控传媒],鈥 Boney said. 鈥淚t鈥檚 allowed me to grow my confidence and leadership skills, and it鈥檚 strengthened my commitment to serving others in our communities. Working within this department has been very rewarding.鈥
